We recently conducted a experiment on glaciers. We took several dyed ice cubes and placed them on top of a "mountain" consisting of dirt, flour, rocks, and plastic animals. Overnight the ice cubes melted and carved a path down the mountain, demonstrating how a glacier works over time. We then took a piece of paper and crumpled it up. After we had crumpled it up, we traced the ridges on top with blue marker and colored it in with a yellow marker. We poured water on top and then put the paper in the freezer. Once it had frozen we took the paper out and saw that the water had run down the mountain and found spots where the paper had sunk in.
